Building Presence for the Next Level
A high achiever starts in a new role at a prominent national organization and seeks to define her personal brand and leadership style. She focuses on building and expanding her team, reacting in real-time to fluid situations and finding the confidence to assert herself with senior leadership.
Time to make a move
J. met Maya and felt something stir. She had started a new leadership role within her organization and had a sense that this was her moment. The organization was changing and she saw an opportunity to help define that shift—and develop her own unique professional presence. J. followed up with Maya about making her move and began what ended up being a coaching engagement with MKLC.
Finding focus, staying fluid
“I wanted Maya’s coaching and guidance on how to build a high functioning team while also developing my personal leadership style and gaining confidence to function at more of an executive level,” J. said. To achieve this, Maya and J. met for regular one-on-one coaching sessions to discuss roadblocks and map out strategies that would help J. make progress. Things were happening fast for J., and she needed someone who could help her hold space for that vision of the future while responding in real-time to the situation on the ground.
Doing the work
“A lot of the sessions really grounded me. Coming out of them, I was able to take Maya’s coaching and apply it directly to what I was doing that day. They were kind of like ‘aha’ moments, where I was able to suddenly see a problem differently. The sessions felt healing in this way, because I was able to come out of them and apply what I learned right away,” said J.
The biggest impact for J. has been a sense of peace in her days and confidence in using her voice within the organization. “You get into your own head a lot in a leadership position, so having someone there to help you focus your thoughts has been invaluable. Now I can look back at our notes and return to that place of calm and carry the work forward by digging into some of the resources and frameworks Maya recommended,” J. reflected.
Building confidence
One of J.’s biggest takeaways in working with Maya on her leadership style and presence within the organization has been her newfound sense of confidence. “I am a lot more confident than I was before I started working with Maya,” J. said. “Our work has given me the confidence to walk into those meetings with senior executives and have the sense of self and peace that has really helped me feel agency in guiding and building my career. I am in charge now. And it feels great.”
