Leaving it all on the Field

Advancing toward the end of her career, a middle manager aims to reach new heights.

With five to seven years left in her career at a big company where she spent nearly three decades, F. was wondering what the end would look like. Would she leave it all on the field, or would she have regrets?

“I don’t want to walk away thinking that I could have done more,” F. said. “But I didn’t know what to do about that.”

A kismet meeting

F. met Maya through a mutual acquaintance and had a good feeling. She followed up with a one-on-one and felt an instant connection. Not sure what kind of support she required, F. first hired Maya to lead a workshop at a conference she was organizing.

“What was so obvious in the workshop was how well-read Maya is. Every point she made was backed up with research. I was very impressed. You can tell she is incredibly intuitive, but the analysis and insight she offers is also grounded in all the latest research and data.”

Finding a partner who challenges your thinking

After the conference, F. decided to set up a regular, monthly session with MKLC to talk through her professional goals, challenges and plans.

“The way Maya looks at the world is so different from how I traditionally approach things,” F. said. “From the very beginning, she helped me refocus the way I look at my work and my time. She was very thought provoking, but in an easy to talk to kind of way.”

Shifting into a new way of seeing

“The biggest shift for me was in the way I was looking at things. She really made me dig deep to think about what it is I want, and that led to a total reframing of the way I was going about getting it,” added F.

“If you are in a rut and you think you know what your path forward might be, MKLC is going to make you think differently about potentially what that path is. That’s huge. I am almost 60, and I’ve never met anyone who can pull that out of you in the way Maya does. She makes you think about what is really important to you. Not what you think is important but what is in your core—the passion and motivation that really drives you. That is how she gets you to understand what your next steps should be.”

A new trajectory

As F. started to see things in a new light, she noticed new opportunities at work—possibilities she had never previously considered as available to her. MKLC worked on her approach and the way she was going to go after it.

“Maya helped me see the playing field differently and changed the tone and content of what I was going to bring into those big, important meetings with senior people. Those shifts have paid dividends. I am in line for a big opportunity that wasn’t even on my radar before I met Maya,” said F.
