Principles, Guardrails and Time Design

What drew you to MKLC and what was the problem you were seeking to solve?

There is something I noticed immediately as special about Maya’s work on time. While most time guru’s focus on how you organize your schedule, Maya has more of a belief system and overall philosophy that intertwines time with deeply held precepts about how you want to live your life, what you want to accomplish and what you want to stand for.

I was looking to align the way I was spending my time with my high-level ambition and the vision I have for the kind of life I want to live, the way I want to feel at the end of each day.

What were your initial impressions and what started to change right away?

Intake involved a deep dive into my actions and motivations that caused me to pause and reflect on some things I had never before considered, so my initial impressions were pretty eyes wide open, wondering where this would go, how it would all fit together. As we developed principles, I could start to see them driving my daily decisions and informing the ways in which I was spending my time.

Pretty quickly I started to see how I was able to balance being spontaneous in following flow with maintaining boundaries. That led to some changes in the way I approach my work. I was getting more done, and seeing more clearly where things needed to go.

What feels different about your days now?

The mornings feel good and spacious. Overall I am more conscious of my time and often notice these decisions like I never did before—deciding what to do in a particular moment, what not to do, and why. It all adds up to a feeling that work and life are less of a grind than before. Moment to moment I am more intentional, so can feel good about what I am doing and why.

I continue to use the solutions we developed, because Maya’s ideas are practical and practicable—they stick in the back of my mind.  The principles she develops with you act as guardrails to keep you on track long after your engagement has concluded.

What would you say to someone considering working with MKLC?

Especially in a post-COVID world, with everything we’ve learned about ourselves, we should all have a heightened appreciation for the value of designing our time in a way that truly reflects who we are and what we hope to achieve. I know that sounds simple but then why do so many people spend their days being pulled in directions not of their choosing? When left to your own devices, sure you have good intentions but let’s be honest, you don’t know how to follow through.

Maya will take you on a journey that is thoughtful, reflective and patient. She will help you feel your way into what is right for you, honour the things that truly matter to you and design structures that ensure your values and aspirations are showing up in the way you spend your time.
